The Renovation

Eco-renovation of the farm:

The work lasted more than two years. The renovation of the house was carried out according to the principles of ecological renovation while respecting the original architecture:

  • For the well-being of the house, the craftsmen and its occupants,

  • To reduce environmental impacts as much as possible,

  • To be a source of inspiration for other projects.

During this major project, and to reduce the environmental impact, we used natural, bio-sourced and local materials whenever possible:

  • screed on gravel hedgehog, in lime and pozzolan concrete,

  • terracotta tile floor,

  • framework, floors, stairs, joinery... in Landes pine,

  • roof insulation with wood wool panels (2 crossed layers of 14cm),

  • lime plaster on the walls with insulation partly made of lime hemp.

For wastewater treatment, we have chosen a phytoremediation system, which is efficient and autonomous.

To limit our need for drinking water, we have installed two tanks of 5m3 each. The rainwater collected in this way allows us to water the vegetable garden.

To reduce our electricity consumption, the water is heated by a solar water heater (11m² of collector).

Heating is provided by a wood stove in the owners' accommodation and by pellet stoves in each of the gîtes.

For even greater energy independence, photovoltaic panels (50 m²) have been installed on the roof.

In addition, the cottages are equipped with energy-efficient household appliances and the dishwashers are powered by solar hot water.

And in order to encourage recycling, the furniture, decoration and tableware are partly second-hand.
